Ok so you are high marking and going down is wayyyy sacrrier than going up... just no control at all.... what if you had an electronic reverse.. do you think you could try that to help slow you down?

Your suspension thread was NOT spam... (At least in my opinion)... you just need to think about how you answer someone when they give their opinion on something... If I had $1500 bucks, I might look into a new suspension for my Apex... and seriously, the video was not the most thrilling I have ever seen, BUT, please reply to as many posts as you like, and if you want to put a link to your suspension website in your signature, go for it!
Don't be bitter because someone gave thier opinion... just drop some lines in the proper sections and call it good! Enjoy the comraderie (sp?) we all have as sledders and hope for a great snow year!!!

ok, off my soap box now... here's my opinion on the Reversing down hill...
I probably would NOT do that, it's at least the same as locking up the track, maybe worse... I always try to keep my track going forward a little bit, even if it's a very minimum bit... I hate going down hills, but I will say, the longer tracks are tons more forgiving when going down hills...

I would "think" that if the track is going that fast down hill and you engage the reverse wether it be the Cat Diamond Drive or Polaris/Bombardier Engine reverse... thing.... that you would FRY your belt faster than I drink a beer. Them clutches would be moving at a high rate of speed in opposite directions and I "think" it would just lock up if the belt and clutches are hot and sticky.

yeah definitely not a good idea.
The best thing you can do going downhill is to keep your track speed as slow as possible without locking the track up. If you lock it up or start going in reverse you'll just lose control. Mostly you just have to pump the brakes and hold on and try not to pucker too hard.
When going down steep hills, it is best to keep your clutches engaged, lightly pump the brakes, your speed can get up over 40 mph, but you have control, if you lock your track, you lose control, so pump the throttle, pump the brakes, and ride it with control and like it's

Speaking of puckering it's funny we all share someonthing man i dont care how bad a** you are... we have all shared oh oh my god what have i done feeling as you start ripping down the decline and there is absolutely no way to stop very little steering, or control and trees at the bottom... heart punding, stomach wrenching... man.... oh man
Ever since I got the SX8 clutch kit from Joey, desending is much more controlable.
I'm assuming it's the helix but it back shifts and there fore the engine helps you slow down just like downshifting a car.
Never tried reversing downhill but doesn't sound like it would be good on the clutches.
Might be good for when you go up to help a buddy and trench it in a little so the sled doesn't go tumbling down.
Yea, we have all been heading down those hills that make you pucker harder than your heart can beat. I always use strategy when climbing something that either I am not sure I can make it up, there is always a safe path to ride down. Pumping the brakes is much safer, and won't do any harm to your sled. I also always keep 2 extra old belts in my sled, so if I need some extra traction coming down, throw those on your front skiis, ride down nice and slow. I never use my reverse.
