Thoughts on Ski's...

So as I was saying in the carbides thread...

I have a 2007 Yamaha Apex Mtn. 162" track with 2.25" lugs, 16" wide. The skis seem pretty decent, the keels are actually pretty deep on the stock skis, but I still have some problems when riding in packed, or on the trail getting to my favorite place...

I have considered many different skis, but have yet to actually get any new ones because $400 for a set of skis is a lot of money (for me)...

Any suggestions? What have you used that you really like, or really don't like, or have found fairly decent all around? I realize no single ski will please every style of riding, but there's got to be something that is a pretty level pick.

Thanks all!

Skis tend to be a very personal item, if you find nothing terribly wrong with the stock unit except their propensity to wash perhaps a proper set of wear bars would serve you well. For a more positive feel try something with a 5/8" host bar and 10" of 60 degree carbide. At times it is advantagious to shim the carbide off the keel directly below the spindle.

I presonally run the C&A Pro XT skis they do the job for me I have no complaints and this is my third set (let the others go when I sold the sleds.) However if you're stock skis are working for you then you might want to look into Stud Boy Shaper bars, or those things you mount between the skis and wear bars (can't remember the name or company) that compress the snow and give you a more positive feel in the corners as cheaper options.

Hey Sledd'n Daddy... I do not ride in the mountain, or rarely in deep snow, but do ALOT of trail(hard packed) riding! Half way through last year I was using 6" 60º carbides and it was ok. Put 8" 60º carbides on and made a night and day difference! I have 144 studs in my track and can turn on a dime.

You may want to try the 10" like VOHK mentioned. They will probably suit you well!

Good Luck! Doo02
