Lightweight Overveiw

Though each model differs to some extent whith respect to where the most efficient place to shave pounds is, the most common places are as follows.

Exhaust: the most obvious place to start, generally begins with the silencer (5-15lbs), however does come at the cost of added noise.
ie. M1000 -13 silencer, -6 pipe

Intake: Most sleds can stand to loose a few pounds here (5-10lbs), also can add noise though.
ie. M1000 -8 VOHK intake

Seat: Easy, Effective (5-10lbs) but expensive.
ie. M1000 -7.4 Boss seat

Suspension: Including removing excess idler wheels, air shocks, etc. Often can be done without replacing with complete new system. (5-25lbs) depending on budget mostly.
ie. -12 Holz skid, -5 Ti A-arms

Hood: Many models benefit from lightweight hoods (5-10lbs) also expensive.
ie. -7 Lexan Hood

Track Porting: Truely a double edge sword, I don't recomend it in CO. Can save 3.5lbs

Skis: From a weight loss standpoint, Bunk - Most OEM Units are the lightest available.

And a drove of other minor parts available in alternative materials which when added up do contribute to large net losses (steering posts, Bushings, pivots, collars, hardware, etc.)
One comonly overlooked item is noise reduction material (hood insulation, etc) can add up to 3 or more pounds. Things like racks, headlight and tailights can be ditched in lue of a lead dog helmet light.

In summary, weightloss is something that takes a serious commitment to realize significant losses. It is almost pointless to do a one or two things, go thew distance and you will be rewarded.

VOHK
