What are all the guidelines for snowmobiling on the water such as speed and position and what not? I would like to try it so you should tell me how.

It's all about speed.

From my experience, you lean back just a bit, and keep your speed up enough not to sink. Hard to actually give a certain speed to hold, you can go as fast as you want, just don't slow down so much you sink...

Start with something small, I wouldn't try Lake Erie the first time, maybe a small shallow pond in a river or something, and work your way up...

Good luck! Send us some pics of the sled recovery!!

You know... I think the people who water cross are nuts... just for the fact of losing a sled. I would love to try but if I don't make it across... I don't have money to fix sled. Water damage and all that comes with it!

Looks like fun and an adrenaline rush.

thats the big rule, dont ever let off the throttle. back when i lived in mn we had a gravel pit that filled with water and it was only like 5 ft deep or so, so it was easy to recover sleds. it doesnt really damage sleds at all, just if you sink kill it right away, pull it out of the water, pull out your spark plugs tip it on its side and use yer pull start to blow out all the water, change yer chain case fluid and yet set. deffintly let your sled warm up alot before rippin the water. you can also duct tape your vents on the side of your belt....helps a lot sometimes belts get wet and slip and then you have issues.
